Canning Basics: Preparing Your Vegetables For Canning

Cooking is a necessity of life, but it can become a hobby as well. If someone has the right information, they will be able to cook even the most complicated of dishes. You can find that very advice in this article.

Do not keep your herbs or spices in a place that is not cool and dark. When they are stored in the sun, they lose shelf life because of exposure. To keep your spices spicy and fresh, store them in an area that is cool and dark. Using fresh spices will make your food taste better.

Fresh Basil

Do you enjoy preparing dishes that contain fresh basil? Put a bunch of fresh basil in a glass. Cover the stems with water. This will allow it to stay fresh for weeks! Many times the basil will root if the water is changed regularly. Encourage new growth by occasionally pinching back or trimming your basil.

Mushrooms absorb large amounts of water, and this excess water will go into whatever you are cooking with. Wipe off each mushroom with a clean wet cloth to prepare them for cooking.

If you cooked with a sauce, save the leftover sauce in an ice cube tray that you can freeze. This will make reheating the sauce easy, as you can pull out as many cubes that you need for the next meal. This process doesn’t cause the sauce to go bad, so reheat with confidence!

If you want to make chicken stock, you might as well make a lot of it. If you make a large amount of stock you can freeze it for future use. You can use that delicious chicken stock in stews, casseroles, and soups. Put the stock into freezer bags and put it in your freezer.

When you are using wooden skewers in cooking, soak them for at least half an hour before putting the veggies on them. Being soaked in the water prevents them from getting burned when exposed to the cooking heat. You can keep your food on the skewers if you use two sticks parallel instead of just one.

There is much more to cooking than simply serving a meal. It needs to taste good, look good and make you want more! You will probably mess up a couple of times, though if you take the advice that has been written out for you in this article, you will probably has less mistakes than you expect. By embracing these hints and putting them to good use, cuisine success is yours for the taking.
